Bruce Stewart's Day Of The Drongo broadcast as part of the First Night strand. Prior to it's official launch - on 20 April - BBC2 began a series of Trade Test Transmissions for engineering purposes were shown between 9.00am and 8.00pm for six days a week (excepting Sundays). Interspersed with the Test Card, these transmissions consisted mainly of short films which, according to some explanatory blurb in Radio Times, had 'been carefully chosen for their high technical quality to ensure that the best possible pictures are transmitted during the tests.' The Third Round of the FA Cup produced a few shocks, with three First Division scalps, Birmingham City losing at home to Third Division Port Vale, Leyton Orient winning at Leicester City and Newport County defeating Sheffield Wednesday. Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Burnley and Bolton Wanderers all needed replays against lower-league opposition (the latter against Bath City). The biggest shock saw Southern League Bedford Town winning two-one at Newcastle. Ipswich Town beat Oldham Athletic six-three with Gerry Baker neting three. Alf Arrowsmith scored four in Liverpool's five-nil victory over Derby County.

The Angry Ghetto broadcast in BBC2's Enquiry strand. The Post Office Tower in London was completed, although it did not begin operation until October 1965. Due to its importance to the national communications network, information about the tower was designated as an official secret. In 1978, the journalist Duncan Campbell was tried for collecting information about secret locations and during the trial the judge ordered that the sites could not be identified by name; the Post Office Tower could only be referred to as 'Location Twenty Three'. It is often stated that the tower did not appear on Ordnance Survey maps until the mid-1980s, despite being a five hundred and eighty feet tall structure in the middle of Central London that was open to the public for fifteen years. However, this is incorrect; the 1971 and 1981 maps do show the tower.
